Gas Line Locator

JOB SUMMARY:

Locates underground gas service and main lines for customers, contractors and gas crews in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations, guidelines, laws and specifications

Position requires extended hours, standby, and on-call status, responding to emergency situations and interacting with customers.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Works with contractors and general public regarding local requests

·       Ensures all locating equipment is in working condition

·       Maintains accurate records regarding locates: works to contact contractors and homeowners to verify

·       Responds to Emergency locates; ensures gas lines are properly located prior to excavation

·       All other duties as assigned from or through their supervisor

JOB SPECIFICATION

Knowledge: Knowledge of utility locating practices and procedures, principles and techniques; materials and rules/regulations governing the installation of underground utilities; required safety procedures Skills:  Operating electronic equipment used in locating underground utilities; operating a personal computer with installed generic and specific software.

Abilities:  Near vision, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, arm-hand steadiness, deductive reasoning, extent flexibility, information ordering, multi-limb coordination, control precision Education:  High School and Vocational training, or as designated by the General Manager

Experience:  Minimum of five (5) years same or similar position

Customer Service:  Required to interface with public

Valid Texas Driver’s License

FORM OF WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental conditions: outdoor, exposed to all weather conditions, may be exposed to contaminants including dust, gases, odors or pollutants Job hazards / safety:  requires use of hard hat, protective gloves, cut-resistant, ear plugs, safety glasses, reflective vests, safety boots and cold weather gear. Position functions 95% outside in all types of weather.  Exposure to dust, gas fumes, fire and mechanical problems, traffic and noise

PPE:  Safety helmet with face shield. Fire retardant coverall, eye protection, hearing protection, steel toe boots and protective/reflective vests
